PARTNERING WITH PARENTS

WORKING TOGETHER  TO GET  ORGANISED
Research tells us that organisation is the key to success and a stress free life.

Start each term off with an organisation session with your son. A trip to the shops to purchase new items for the term can be a good time to talk about how being organised can reducing work time and help you to stay stress free.

Work together to clear out your son's school bag, pencil case and workspace at home. File away or bin outdated worksheets and assessment tasks.

Clear the clutter from your son's computer desk top and folders. Suggest that he have a folder for games, one for music and one for pictures and movies. He might create a folder for 'home stuff' and another for 'school stuff' within each folder create sub folders for each subject.

Talk to him about a system for keeping organised, worksheets filed, keeping text books together, creating a term planner putting it on the wall or near his desk. Work out a timetable together for home, jobs, homework, study, training and relaxation (sounds boring doesn't it, but it's worth it)

Determine what will be the best time for homework and study. Write these times down  to save you having to constantly remind your son that its homework time. Provide rewards for reaching goals and sticking  to the plan.

Look over the school calender together each term and have your son write key dates in his school diary.

Have family meetings where everyone gets a chance to decide on the 'rules'. These meetings are a good way to encourage ownership of the plans. It's important that everyone gets the idea that your family is in this together and will work as a team to acheive the best outcome for every member.

Cyber Safety

A new website created by the Office of the Children’s eSafety Commissioner is a one-stop-shop for online safety.

The Office provides Australians a range of up-to-date information and resources, coupled with a comprehensive complaints system to assist children who experience serious cyberbullying.

The site has an excellent section called iParent  it is well worth a look around for helpful tips, links and resources for parents, teachers and students.

Included on the site is a fantastic video called

# GameOn. The video is well worth watching and discussing with your children. Topics include cyberbullying, excessive gaming, sharing passwords, free downloads and online friends.
